Joe Klein and I talked with Deb Roy and Kathy Cramer about Cortico, a nonprofit closely affiliated with the MIT Center for Constructive Communication". Deb is Cortico’s co-founder and CEO. Kathy is a political scientist and a member of the Cortico Board of Directors.
Cortico describes its mission as follows:
Cortico’s vision is to become the platform that: surfaces underheard voices rather than the loudest; facilitates sharing experiences rather than battling opinions; and promotes empathy and connection rather than division and intolerance.
By helping build trust from one community to the next, we are shoring up the nation’s democratic foundation.
If we don’t start listening, eventually we’ll lose each other. Cortico aspires to be the platform and the tools for listening and hearing what others have to say. It’s a really interesting idea. Let’s hope it’s successful.
