The idea of our new podcast — ‘The Future Coming at You’ — is simple: Talk to really interesting people about really interesting things, one-on-one.
We’re calling it “The Future Coming at You” because many, if not most, of the interviews will be with people who are doing interesting and/or important work “in” or “about” the future.
For instance: Jane Metcalfe.
Jane Metcalfe is executive chair of the Human Immunome Project, a newly formed NGO with the mission of galvanizing immunologists, computational/systems biologists, and machine learning experts to take a great leap forward by building mechanistic and probabilistic models of the human immunome.
Jane is the co-founder and former president of Wired Ventures, Inc., a diversified media company whose businesses included Wired Magazine (US, UK, and Japanese editions), Wired Digital, and Wired Books. More recently, she was the CEO and founder of proto.life (formerly known as NEO.LIFE), a weekly newsletter, website, book, and events company that tracked how digital tools and an engineering mindset are revolutionizing human biology.
In addition to her work with the Human Immunome Project, Metcalfe is also co-chair of the Futures Council of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation and advises various startups. (Sources: humanimmunomeproject.org. proto.life, fusfoundation.org)
Earlier this week, I interviewed Jane about (1) “capturing” the digital revolution in the 1990s (with Wired magazine), (2) covering the neobiological revolution with proto.life, (3) helping organize a global consortium to draw the map of the human immune system, and (4) helping advance “focused ultrasound” to treat a number of diseases, including cancer.
She’s a great guest. She’s given us a fascinating first episode.
Interview with Jane Metcalfe, recorded Monday, 20 October 2025. Produced by Dale Eisinger. Length: 46 Minutes.
The nuts-and-bolts future coming at you: We’re not yet posting to the major podcast platforms -- Apple, Amazon, Spotify, et alia — but we will be, shortly.
