In this episode of ‘Alternate Shots’, we begin with Richard walking us through the diplomatic twists and turns of the Ukraine “peace” negotiations. Next, we talk about an emerging “Donroe Doctrine” and how it is expressing itself with regards to Venezuela. There follows a brief discussion of financial “cockroaches” and a longer discussion of the U.S. government shutdown, Congressional redistricting and the 2026 mid-term elections. At the end, Richard bemoans the Disaster in Denver (The New York Giants lost, again) and we finish with two facts related to Shohei Ohtani’s extraordinary performance in Game Four of the NLCS.
(P.S.: The “Donroe Doctrine” was a clever maxim coined by Rana Foroohar of the Financial Times. We both regret we didn’t come up with it first.)
