The problem with producing a rare earth, magnets and materials in the United States is created by our state and federal regulatory apparatus. The mining technology and refining technology as well as the magnet production technology are well understood and all of that can be done by MP and others with appropriate funding if the regulators don’t cause interminable delays. I am writing as someone who was an investor in a company that Molycorp purchased and as a shareholder of Molycorp when it went bankrupt.
Right on the money! However, 95% of adults would know this truth without asking it is so basic to our strategic needs; but somehow the politics get in the way of reality; like what about the impact on the environment and climate by mining and refining rare earth resources? Tell that story to the Chinese. As an aside, with hot wars in the Middle East and Ukraine has anyone in DC found a way to accelerate our weapons supply? Trump touts his love of peace but the world does not share his altruism and his policy of not supporting Ukraine will be his Saigon…!!
