1. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberals retained power in the country's election yesterday, but fell short of the majority government he had wanted to help him negotiate tariffs with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Liberals were leading or elected in 164 electoral districts, known as seats, followed by the Conservatives with 147, with votes still being counted. The Liberals need to win 172 of the House of Commons' seats for a majority that would allow them to govern without support from a smaller party. There are multiple reports on the results by all of the major news sources. This CBC News report on the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is worth reading. Update: The Liberal lead over the Conservatives has grown to 20 seats for the first time in a while. The party is still six seats short of a majority. (Sources: reuters.com, cbc.ca, et alia)

3. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre congratulated Prime Minister Mark Carney on the Liberals’ election victory. Mr. Poilievre has indicated he wants to stay on as leader. “It will be an honor to continue to fight for you and to be a champion of your cause,” Poilievre told supporters in Ottawa early Tuesday. Mr. Poilievre was defeated last night by Liberal Bruce Fanjoy in the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton. It seems unlikely that he will “stay on as leader”, given the results on his home turf. Official election results, riding by riding, are here. (Sources: theglobeandmail.com, enr.elections.ca, italics mine)
