“Eurointelligence hits my in-box at 3am every weekday. Almost every morning, I read it immediately. It’s the single most valuable source for news and analysis of the EU and eurozone. — John Ellis (me).
www.eurointelligence.com is a specialist service for news and analysis of the EU and eurozone. With its flagship product, Eurointelligence Professional, it offers filtered and time-saving access to important information from a wide network of national and international sources. No media outlet offers comparable coverage. It also provides its own expert commentary and analysis, and tries to do so with a bit of humor.
Wolfgang Münchau is co-founder and director of Eurointelligence. He writes a weekly column on European affairs, syndicated to El Pais, Corriere della Sera and Handelsblatt. He was a Financial Times columnist from 2003 until 2020 and co-founder and editor-in-chief of Financial Times Deutschland. He is the author of several books. His most recent is entitled “Kaput: The End of the German Miracle”.
Mr. Munchau joined us to talk about his new book, “Kaput”, which describes the collapse of the German business (and political) model. We talked about a lot of other things as well, including Ukraine, the rise of the right, the lack of innovation holding Europe back and the need for a eurobond.
We’ve broken the podcast down into three parts, for “ease of use”. It’s a great conversation because Mr. Munchau was a great guest.

If you prefer to listen to podcasts on the major podcast platforms, you can find this and all the other ‘Night Owls’ podcasts at Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and iHeart.
P.S.: My partner in podcasting Joe Klein had a prior engagement and was unable to join the conversation with Wolfgang. He’ll be back tomorrow when we interview Daniela Rus, the Andrew (1956) and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. We’ll be talking to her about robotics and AI. We will also talk to her about whatever else she wants to talk about. We hope to post that podcast by Thursday, 8 May.
