In a development that feels straight out of science fiction, a large collaborative team led by researchers from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has unveiled MatrAIx: a population-scale AI simulation infrastructure designed to model the behavior of virtually every person on Earth.
MatrAIx centers on Persona 8B, a dataset containing 8.3 billion unique digital profiles. Each persona is defined across 1,290 categorical dimensions that capture everything from demographic background and psychological traits to spending habits, technical literacy, behavioral quirks, and lifestyle preferences.
The system is not merely a static database. Researchers bring these personas to life as agents powered by frontier large language model. These agents can then be dropped into four distinct digital environments: surveys, AI chat interfaces, live web browsing, and native desktop and mobile applications.
Persona 8B was constructed using a sophisticated dependency graph that preserves realistic correlations between attributes. Some records are synthetically generated while others are carefully extracted and grounded in real human data from biographies, reviews, surveys, and consented self-reports.

2. One Billion Agents:
In a significant advance for computational social science and artificial intelligence, a team of researchers primarily from Chinese institutions has unveiled Light Society, an agent-based simulation framework capable of modeling human-like societies at planetary scale. The system powers simulations involving over one billion AI agents, each endowed with realistic personalities, memory, beliefs, goals, and decision-making capabilities derived from large language models (LLMs). 3. The war against Iran has depleted U.S. weapons stockpiles to troubling levels, siphoning supplies from Asia and Europe, according to senior officials. The rapidly shrinking supply of air-defense missiles and other critical weaponry in Europe and Asia not only leaves the U.S. military less equipped, but could also leave Russia and China feeling emboldened should they contemplate a potential conflict with the United States, experts said. The Iran campaign has forced the Pentagon to rush ships, aircraft and air-defense units from across Europe and Asia to the Middle East, an effort with cascading consequences for equipment maintenance and troop morale, U.S. officials said. 4. The Pentagon is asking the U.S. defense industry to rapidly escalate the production and delivery of weapons, including munitions that are in extreme shortage due to the war with Iran, according to a Defense Department memo obtained by The Washington Post. Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg wrote to industry leaders on Wednesday, saying they had no more than 21 days to submit plans to “drive significantly faster, more aggressive delivery schedules and/or increased production for critical capabilities,” according to the memo, which is previously unreported. “Years-long development cycles are not acceptable,” Feinberg wrote. “We must dramatically accelerate our program schedules and expand our production capacity now.” (Source: washingtonpost.com)
