1. Several major cities in Pakistan have become battlegrounds as supporters of ousted prime minister Imran Khan march toward Islamabad. Police resorted to firing tear gas and baton charges yesterday in the northern state of Punjab, the country’s largest province and a stronghold of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, after protesters tried to forcefully remove barricades to stop them from moving towards the capital. Several demonstrators were seen fainting during the clashes. In Islamabad, officials used dozens of shipping containers to cordon off major roads into the city as well as having a heavy presence of security forces. Entry restrictions have been imposed on key roads that lead to the high-profile red zone area where government buildings are located to stop Mr Khan’s supporters from trying to break through. 2. Pakistan's ousted prime minister Imran Khan disbanded a protest march by supporters earlier today after clashes with police outside parliament the previous evening, but he warned that they would return unless an election was called within six days. Khan has said that the confidence vote that toppled him and ushered in the coalition government led by Prime Minister Shabhaz Sharif last month was the result of a U.S. conspiracy, and he is demanding a fresh election to show he has national support. "I'm giving you six days. You announce elections in six days," Khan said from atop a truck after he and thousands of his supporters reached Islamabad, adding that the parliament should be dissolved to hold the fresh elections in June. He warned the government that he will march on the capital again if it didn't meet the demands. (Source: reuters.com)
